Camp Routine
Mornings…
… are spent in rehearsals and tutorials.
Rehearsals are taken by the conductors of each orchestra or band, with
tutors present to help where necessary.
Tutorials are taken by an experienced performer in your instrument.
The conductors and tutors will inspire you with their enthusiasm.
Tutorials give you a great chance to meet other people who play
your instrument, and to exchange or learn new ideas.
Finally, all campers sing in a massed choir, under the direction of
a specialist choral conductor.
Afternoons
After such a musically intensive morning, you may want to relax, so from
2.00 pm to 3.30 pm is free time.
Young students who have permission from their parents may leave the
camp during this time. Requirements will be outlined during the director’s welcoming announcements.
We also organise recreational activities on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
Staff may offer informal workshops and demonstrations during free time,
depending on the talents of particular tutors.
Elective Ensembles
A number of small groups are run between afternoon tea time and dinner,
and you can choose which one you join.
Ensemble Groups vary from year to year, depending on campers’ desires
and imagination.
Electives from past years include jazz, choir, experimental music, improvisation, Big Band,
and saxophone, cello, percussion, Celtic, Klezmer and string ensembles.
At the auditions, advanced players are invited to join the Senior Chamber
String Ensemble or the Senior Stage Band for a more challenging experience.
Most elective groups perform in the Friday night
public concert, the emphasis being on enjoying the experience.
Student common room
Students other than boarders should wait for their transport provider in the Common Room adjacent to the Camp Office.
