Aylish Jorgensen
Low Strings
Born and raised in Albury, Border Music Camp was one of the best weeks of the year for Aylish, who started playing cello at three.
Starting under Catriona Byles, she attended Albury Public School followed by Albury High School, through which she gained opportunities to travel to Sydney and work with orchestras such as the Australian World Orchestra, the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, as well as perform with chamber groups and solos at the Sydney Opera House from age 10. From playing in these programs she was chosen to join the Arts Unit Symphony Orchestra on their UK and Ireland Tour in 2018.
From a young age she was a regular in Albury-Wodonga’s vibrant musical scene, playing numerous shows including Les Misérables, Oklahoma!, Aida, and Matilda. She also taught locally as well as being part of local orchestras from a young age and was a scholar for St Matthew’s Music Association, among other organisations.
After graduating from high school during the pandemic and needing to work out life, she joined the Royal Australian Navy for its gap year program. Part-way through, she returned to be a part of the Border Music Camp (Spring Edition) which resparked her love for music. From here she moved to work with the Navy Band in Sydney, then made the decision to discharge and study music.
Aylish is now currently in her third year studying cello under Richard Narroway at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. In 2025 she went on exchange to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under Pei-Jee Ng, where she also studied Pedagogy. She tutors at various music regional music camps such as the Riverina Strings and Recorder Camp, as well as teaching in Melbourne.
