Camp Leadership

Our Alumni

Border Music Camp has alumni making their mark in music across Australia and around the world. A sample of former campers now working professionally includes:

  • Victoria Bihun – Section Second Violin, Sydney Symphony Orchestra

  • Angela Chilcott – Coordinator, Music in Me (Australian Youth Orchestra) and former Director of Orchestra Operations, San Diego Symphony Orchestra, United States

  • Anne Frankenberg – Chief Executive Officer, Musica Viva Australia

  • Fenella Gill – Section Cello, Sydney Symphony Orchestra

  • Craig Hill – Section Clarinet, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (retired)

  • Kate Salvatore – Orchestra Manager, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra

One of the wonderful things about Border Music Camp is that many former students return as tutors, sharing their expertise and inspiring the next generation. About 30% of the tutors were themselves students at Camp, and are now active leaders in their communities – both nationally and internationally. They currently include:

  • Alastair McKean – Head of Library, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and Past President, Major Orchestra Librarians’ Association

  • Lauren Whitehead – Deputy Principal Horn, Landestheater Detmold, Germany

  • Rosie Marks-Smith – Head of Culture and Wellbeing, Sydney Symphony Orchestra
