Joel Dullard
Deputy Director

Growing up in a musical family in regional Victoria, Joel began playing music at a very early age, learning piano and guitar, and playing in brass bands, before settling on woodwind generally, and saxophone specifically.

His first opportunity to play in a wind ensemble was when he attended Border Music Camp while in high school. It was here that he developed a love for wind band music, as well as for mint choc chip ice cream.

He went on to study music and teaching at the University of Melbourne, and has taught at a number of high schools across Melbourne and regional Victoria since. He has been on the staff of Border Music Camp since 2005, where his duties have included saxophone tutor, conductor of the Pringle Wind Ensemble, stand-in conductor of the Hardie Wind Ensemble, leader of the Experimental Music Ensemble, emergency flute tutor, bassoon tutor, as well as Deputy Director.

He has performed professionally in a range of musical styles throughout Australia, Europe and Asia. Highlights include performing as a guest of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur, and recording vocals for a Gatorade commercial in Tokyo.

He has performed unprofessionally in a range of musical styles throughout Australia, Europe and Asia. Highlights include singing ‘Sorry ’bout The Violence’ with The Meanies at a roller skating rink in Bendigo, and being stopped from playing after mere moments by well-meaning police officers in Berlin after attempting to busk without an appropriate permit.
