Laura Moore
Low Strings

Laura grew up on a dairy farm in Yarram in a household filled with music. Her love of singing and cello playing was sparked and nurtured at Gippsland Grammar School and subsequently the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, under Zoe Knighton and Miriam Morris.

Laura obtained her Bachelor of Music Performance from the Victorian College of the Arts under the tutelage of Josephine Vains, and it was during this time she developed a special love for the viola da gamba and studying historical performance practices of the Baroque and Renaissance eras.

Laura currently works at Geelong Grammar and Kardinia International College as a cello teacher. She is also a teaching artist for the Bluebird Foundation in Geelong, a community arts organisation where she runs baby music classes and conducts the NORTH Children’s Choir. Laura is a member of Consortium – Melbourne’s Consort of Viols, and thoroughly enjoys exploring the consort music of the 16th and 17th centuries.

Laura attended Camp as a student from 2004-2007 and has thoroughly enjoyed returning as a tutor since 2008, both as a cello tutor and massed choir conductor. For her, Border Music Camp is a way of connecting with like-minded musicians, taking home teaching and musical inspiration for the year and reconnecting with old friends.
