Lizzy Collier grew up in Sydney before moving to Canberra in 2009 to pursue studies at the Australian National University. Between 2009 and 2012 she completed a Bachelor of Music, majoring in musicology and conducting, alongside a Bachelor of Arts. In 2013 she attained her teaching qualification and has since been dedicated to music education in Canberra schools.
Lizzy has been part of the Canberra Grammar School community since 2010, contributing extensively through instrumental and classroom teaching, co ordinating the Jazz Band program, and serving as Musical Director for numerous school productions. Her credits include School of Rock, Chicago, Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Pirates of Penzance. Beyond the school environment, she has conducted the National Capital Orchestra, Musica da Camera, and worked with Canberra Youth Music. She also maintains an active performance life, most recently appearing with Free Rain Theatre in their production of &Juliet.
Her passion for music education was first sparked as a student attending Border Music Camp, which she attended twice. She has served on the Camp staff since 2013 and credits it as a formative influence in her development as an educator. Inspired by the diverse careers of her colleagues, she created the Careers in Music presentation to help senior students explore the many pathways through which music can remain a meaningful part of their futures.
