Sarina Walter
Newman Chamber Orchestra

Sarina Walter is a cultivator of rich, joyful artistic experiences. With a compassionate approach that meets people precisely where they are, she illuminates pathways to courageous, committed music making.

Growing up in regional Victoria, Sarina was a music-obsessed child lucky enough to have a supportive family who thought it entirely reasonable to travel 4 hours for a violin lesson. On completing her BMus (University of Melbourne), and DipEd (Australian Catholic University) Sarina made it her mission to bring musical opportunities to regional and underserved communities.

In 2022, Sarina embarked on an ambitious project to build a music program from scratch in Central Victoria. Now reaching 180+ students each week at Maryborough Education Centre, her program is noted for its innovation and impact.

Previously, Sarina has worked as an educational leader in the independent school system, as well as Lead Teaching Artist at Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s flagship community music program, The Pizzicato Effect. Sarina is a sought-after guest educator, speaker and facilitator (Melbourne Music Summit, SEVR Stringfest, Melbourne Youth Orchestras, Resonance String Orchestra, Musica Viva), and performs regularly as a session musician in varied settings.

Sarina has been a part of the Border Music Camp family since 2013, proudly evangelising/tutoring Viola to anyone she can. Border Music Camp has been a transformational force in both her teaching and musical development and she is deeply honoured to be conducting Newman in 2026.

She is completing a Masters of Education at a stunningly glacial pace, with a particular interest in music as a positive intervention in cognitive and social development.
